Cyber Salon: Technology and Politics
Last night, the Cyber Salon met at Brunellos, which is now becoming the Village Idiot. Descent food, wine, and beer; good wireless connection, and 20% discount! Veronica and I spent most of the evening talking about things happening in the district. I thought we had some good chats about
- open source (can we do it at a CC w/o cheap computer science grad student labor?),
- podcasting (I claimed that I don’t think most of our colleague’s “get” the syndicated element of it...they just equate podcasting with audio files), and
- Google Apps (their just so cool!) among other things.
Our partners thoroughly enjoyed laughing at us every time we got distracted by the commercials for the new Apple iPod Nanos. Yeah...so Monday night football didn’t grab us, but the iPod commericals did! So what?!
Devon got caught up with trying to sync his Treo and mac powerbook...so he slid in late. However, we got to geek out a bit, especially when we started talking about various firefox add-ons (with my three favorites including:
- del.icio.us bookmarks: why would you ever use firefox’s locally based bookmarks again?
- Better gmail: among many other things, it forces a secure https log on!
- GTDinbox: although I do not follow the whole GTD craze, I like that it allows me to click on my tags instead of using the drop-down menu.
