Jetson’s Workshop
By yours truly…
Whooo hooo…5 technologies (Social Bookmarking, Blogs, RSS, Wikis & Personal Portals), three hours, and the occasional technological glitch. I had a lovely group of participants from across the North American Continent. I did forget to test the video to make sure we have sound (oops) and I’ve realized that the Power Point presentation is worthless beyond the first couple of slide; otherwise, I think we had a smashing time.
I greatly appreciated the two participants who already knew and were intensively using, even teaching with and about them, the various technologies I was introducing. They added wonderful examples to the discussion. I greatly appreciated every question asked and every example shared. I love talking about these technologies, sharing what I know, and in the act learning from those I share with.
What I learned:
- Although I’m personally tired of the “jetsons” metaphor, it still works for my colleagues across the nation.
- A tip about downloading YouTube videos for presentations
- Some resource websites
- The fact that I want and need to be better connected with my geeky colleagues across the country.
Ultimately I was ecstatic how well incorporating the Common Craft “Plain English” videos helped with introducing some of the technologies, especially RSS! Whew…a 20 minute mess of me trying to explain RSS to a quick 4 minute “ahhh ha!”
I’ll be updating the wiki I set up, adding this blog to the general technology workshop blog I keep, as well as keeping contact with the participants.
